I have no idea who it belongs to. It was not in a wallet or anything.

Someone said I should hand it into the police but i was wondering if the police might keep it , or tell one of their friends and they claim it falsely.

Should I just burn it or give it to charity maybe?

Before you do anything else have it checked to see if it is counterfeit----------

If I had just made up a batch and wanted to try it out for passing I might just "lose" a wad of it to see what shows up in the press, etc.

Then as it appears at one end of the country they start tracing it back to the passer, at several locations say, all the while I have the bulk of the loot which I am passing somewhere else while this diversion is in effect.

In UK I don't know but in USA having fake money is not Illegal but PASSING IT IS !

I am not sure about "Flashing" it but would think that would constitue fraud by some standard.

If it is real keep it.

Another thought: Could it be a part of a terroist plot----remember what the 3rd Reich did toward the end of WW II those £ notes were examined years later after being recovered from a lake bottom and the experts were unable to tell if they were real or counterfeit !!!!!

That's serious money! How could you just "find" it? Even in fifties that's still 200 notes, you don't just find that lying around.

Due to the section this is posted in I'm inclined to believe it's a psychological test. Personally I'd go to the police with it first - that could be some little old lady's life savings she was taking to the bank and left on a bench. If nobody claims it then I'd give it to charity.

Turn it into the police. The Serial numbers could mark the notes as part of an investigation.

in the usa if you turn it in you get to keep it after 30 days if no one claims it. here is what i would do......keep it in a safe place for a while and stop telling people you have it. Then after some time has passed put it in the bank.

yeah for real don't give it to the cops! i would hold on to it and read papers to see if anyone reported it missing after 30 days if no one reports it it's yours to do what you want with!
atleast that is how lose and found is done here in the states!

but if you have a guilty consiouse i would donated it a cause you feel strong about..
