that you have a life altering disease?

Would you be able to "allow" yourself this luxury or would you withdraw your feelings from engaging in this form of love and intimacy with another.

It is a fact of my life.

No, the love comes and is received unconditionally. I do have these ... doubts. But love is no luxury, it is paramount to my life no matter what condition I have. I'd rather go out of air.

The eighth level of higher intimacy is unconditional love. This is seen mostly in pets towards their owners. No matter what happens to them, they forgive and love. Few individuals or couples reach this level however, and as a result, their feelings of attachment are based on conditions. These conditions seem logical to the individual and as a result, if a condition like a life altering disease occurs, perhaps this is a condition where they feel justified in terminating their feelings for the other person.
It does not depend on the disease or the affliction the person displays, but more on the level of unconditional love that is present in the relationship; that alone determines endurance or termination of love.

It depends....have you always known about the disease-or did you just find out? What I would do is just start out getting to know each other and become friends-no harm there. Then, when either you think you're having feelings for this person or you begin to think that they are having feelings for you, that's when I would bring that into discussion. I believe it's only fair to the other person...wouldn't you want to know if the situation was reversed? Then depending on what that person said would be what happens next? Every relationship is based on honesty and trust. Don't betray it by hiding yourself. If that person really cares about you they'd still be there for you. Maybe just as a friend, but possibly more. Ever see that movie, A Walk to Remember? Best of luck!

I would talk about it before you just call it quits. Maybe the other person loves you to much and nothing would get in his/her way not even a life altering disease. Love is stronger then anything when you really care about someone.

If you're going to withdraw your feelings because of this disease, then you might as well kill yourself right now because there is no point in living if you do that. Live life to the fullest. But even knowing this, I would have difficulty, because I could also cause emotional suffering to the other person. =\

Life altering meaning terminal ?. If I found out I had a terminal illness no way would I allow anyone close, as a matter of fact I would try to drive people away to soften the blow...

So long as they were fully aware of the future consequences or degenerative state that the disease may cause later on, then it's their choice. They will either step away slowly or carry on loving you.

I agree with the answers above that say love is blind. If you love someone, you love them. You cant help it. So long as they are aware of all the facts tho. To hide it would be more unkind.

I guess I am selfish because I would allow it. I think I would need it. A positive attitude can make all the difference in survival and success in recovery from any illness, and a good relationship can help with the positive attitude.

If someone is willing to love you despite any disease you may have, I think the best thing you can do is to allow them to love you. I am sure that if I knew that person wasn't going to use me or abuse my privacy about my disease then yes I would allow them to love me. Afterall life is short, live it up!
