When you say you got a pretty big price at the jewelers, do you mean an appraisal or did you sell it? Pawning something will get you a fraction of the value and they charge interest. You can either run an ad under Found Ring and ask that any caller describe the ring or you can run a For Sale ad.
You might also check ads in the Lost column.

I agree with "Go Bears!" even though some mean people gave her a thumbs down. I also agree with "troyshark". First, try to see whose it is. If you don't find the owner within about 2- 6 months, sell it for the money. Also, if you are looking for the owner, don't come right out and describe the ring. Since it is worth so much, people might just come right out and say that it's theirs when it's really not. Ask people if they lost a ring. If they say yes, ask them to describe it. It is the right thing to do, and it probably means a lot to someone! I hope I helped!
Great question!
I gave you a star! :) ♥

Is it marked in any way?
If someone lost an expensive ring, you might want to offer it to the police station. Yes, you be given a reward if someone claims it, but more importantly - whatever poor couple lost the symbol of their love will have it back.
Also - in most cases, if you offer the ring to the police department, and nobody claims it after a certain amount of time, it will be given back to you anyway - at which point, at least you tried, and now you can sell it (or keep it, or whatever else) without any feelings that you did the wrong thing.

Well... you could find out what the actual cost was then hang up flyers that dont have the cost on them saying that you found an engagement ring and if someone comes to claim it they have to tell you the price first. Or you could sell it and give the money to charity or use it to buy Christmas gifts for needy children or if you are more of the greedy type (I am too sometimes) then you can just sell it and use the money for your Christmas gifts or to treat yourself to whatever you want for Christmas.

Well if you just found it somewhere I'm guessing the right thing to do is write an ad for a found ring or something like that... but then again there are so many rings in this world that are lost and a lot of rings look the same so it would be hard to find the right owner.
my advice is to just do what you think is right. listen to your heart... if you lost your engagement ring would you want to find it or would you want the finder to sell it to a jewler to get money for it?? i dont care what you do.. it is your choice...

Same thing happened to my mom. She told the local police who ran an ad in the paper. No one claimed it. Mom kept it. It's a beautiful ring. Talk to the police. They'll help you weed out the real owner from the phonies. After two weeks with no claim, feel free to sell it with a clear conscience.

First, if you were nice you could look in the location you found it and report it to the police and or see if there was a recent function going on their and give it about a month to see if anyone would call in for it and give it to the rightful owner sometimes people call police if they are missing something if it is not yours. I found a womans pocketbook left at an icecream store in the summer and I looked at the wallet with her card and it had her number and I called her and told her to come get it. The woman at the icecream counter asked if I wanted her to handle it which sometimes businesses ask that but whos to say to trust them, I trusted myself just as much to call this woman and return it to her, I would not steal it from her. That wouuld be a big hassel for her and I would not do that.

Didn't you ever lose something and wish you could have it back? The value of the item doesn't matter; the ring belongs to someone else. Go to the police station and talk to them.
Do the right thing. Whoever lost it isn't a bad person or an idiot, just somebody who lost something.
And if you don't know about karma, look it up. What goes around comes around.

Take out an ad in the paper, and post signs in the area where you found it. You may also want to contact the local police, to let them know you found such an expensive item. (Sometimes, the person who lost such an item will report it missing to the police.) In most cases, if a certain amount of time goes by after you post the advertisements and the item remains unclaimed, you can keep it.
If the owner is looking for it, I hope they are able to get in touch with you. You may even get a reward.
