Sounds like he is also in violation of his probation and may have to serve out whatever sentence he was on probation for. CALLTHE CLERK of the court and FIND OUT.

If you wanted to pay the 708.40 to the county in which he is being held the only thing that would do is possible get him transported to the other county in which he has the probation hold a little faster. You really need to contact his probation officer and see what he/she is willing to do in order to get the hold lifted or what the probation officer is asking for as far as a sentence for the violation. I'm sure there is going to be a probation hearing at which time he will be charged with what ever probation violation his PO is alleging he has violated as a condition of his probation. When there has been a hold placed on some one it can only be in my experience lifted by a judge or possibly by his probation officer. Good Luck.

A probation hold means that he was on probation before he was arrested, and is now in violation of his probation.

The $708 will have to be paid BEFORE the probation hold can be addressed. Then it's up to his PO whether to lift the hold and tell the jail to release him, or ask the court to revoke him and have him returned to his underlying sentence.
