lets say, you are going to the airport for a certain reason. can you leave your handgun in your car even though you have a license and the car will be outside or even in the parking garage? is that ok or is it prohibited? even if it is prohibited and you still bring it and leave it in your car. is there a metal detector or something similar that will find it and get you in trouble?

A metal detector that can 'see' a pistol through an automobile ? I don't think so.

Lots of people do exactly that: get to the airport, safely and securely stow their weapon, and go about their business.

Depends on State law and the terms of your permit.

In my State you can't leave a gun unattended in a car anywhere. "If" someone were to break into your car and steal it - and airport parking lots are a shopping mall for thieves - you could face all sorts of civil and criminal liability issues.

It varies by state.
