Borderline personality disorder (DSM-IV Personality Disorders 301.83[1]) (BPD) is defined as a personality disorder primarily characterized by emotional dysregulation, extreme "black and white" thinking, or "splitting", and chaotic relationships. The general profile of the disorder also typically includes a pervasive instability in mood, interpersonal relationships, self-image, identity, and behavior, as well as a disturbance in the individual's sense of self. In extreme cases, this disturbance in the sense of self can lead to periods of dissociation.

Disturbances suffered by those with borderline personality disorder are wide-ranging. These disturbances have a pervasive negative impact on many or all of the psychosocial facets of life. This includes the ability to maintain relationships in work, home, and social settings. Comorbidity is common; borderline personality disorder frequently occurring with substance use disorders and mood disorders. Attempted suicide and completed suicide are possible outcomes without proper care and effective therapy.

As keisha said, Girl, Interrupted is about a girl with BPD. I would suggest reading the book over watching the movie.. as Hollywood likes to sensationalize. But the book was written by a person who suffered from BPD and as such can give you some insight.

The unofficial answer:
The borderline personality disorder means the person affected doesn't have the proper coping skills.

My therapist told me that! Yes I have it. It's totally manageable!!

Best treatment is DBT. DBT is especially for BPD.

A label that so called psychologists give people. Practically everyone has personality disorders because they don't know who they are in reality. Seek out your highest true self and all personality disorders will go away. Don't buy into psychology labels. read The Science of Self Realization by Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada tells how to know your true self.

wow it's a problem. the person is never happy no matter what. always feels like the victim even when they are abusing others. when a tiny problem comes off they cut off a relationship. like if you say one thing that bothers them they will never speak to you again. they end up lonely and unliked. they turn on their friends and get very angry.
it's sad.
