Well, my GF left the car lights on last Monday and i got it jump started on Tuesday. Everything worked, but i couldnt drive my car long enough to fully charge the battery. On Weds i tried to start up my engine, heard some clicks (normal for a car thats out a batteries) and the car wont start.
Im a Rutgers Student, so i called RUPD (security) to help jump start my car.
We comes out with a portable starter, then the mistake happened...
He put the neg on the pos and the pos on the neg. Now my car is COMPLETELY dead. No clicks, no interior lights nothing works... EXCEPT the brake lights.
What could this mean?
I filed a complaint and will speak to the Lt.
I just want to know what EXACTLY CAN happen to my car.
Also, i have a after market Head unit and subwoofer system. Could it hurt that?
Thank you SO Much in Advance!
-Anthony C.

Best scenario....blown fuse.
worst scenario....cooked ECU.

Well if the engine was cranked over with a dead battery and the jumper reversed the worst is very possible if you are lucky the only thing that happen is a blown fuse or fusible link. Now that you say lights and other circuits are OK you might just be a lucky one if not the computer is fried and things don't look well. If the jump pack was provided by the employer then they are at fault because they are responsible for the proper training of said equipment. something very easy to check is the connections to the starter checking for 12 volt signal after looking for burnt fuses and or fusible links. Good luck!

Ok Anthony; I think it may only be a fuse. When you open your hood, look toward the pass. side near the fire wall. There should be a black box. Open the box and look in. You should see two or three large fuses. It should be very obvious which has blown. Three to five dollars at a part store, maybe more, but an easy fix. You might need a screwdriver, phillips or flat head, because these are normally secured in place with screws.
Most likely nothing got fried. The fuse blew and stopped the electric flow. That's how it's supposed to work anyway.

Hopefully he's just blown the main fuse (80-100 amps). You should find that in the engine bay fuse box. He may have also blown the diodes in the alternator. Any other electronic control units will have to be checked,as well, as there is no gaurantee that they will not have suffered damage.

check the main fuses. i think honda has two. if u have brake lights u have enough voltage from the battery. the fuse u need is prob under the hood. but if he blew the system u would have seen sparks somewhere. so get that new fuse n u should b alright. but hey u gotta take responsibility and watch them hook it up.

It sounds like you just shorted the battery and will need to buy a new one... What did you jump it from? another car? is that car still running or not so much? Try jumping it the right way this time and see what happens first

Can depend on car but if you know anything about computers if you get the polarity backwards you can fry the cars computer or other sensitive electrical components. You could be talking a major expense here. Tow to a mechanic and have him give you an estimate to fix.

I would say that it sounds as if you blew an in line fuse and would check with autozone and ask them. you need to tell them the year make ,and model. they should be able to look up the electrical system on their computer.
Autozone is an auto parts place.

you need a new battery for sure and now you will probably need a new alternator and some fuses and I hope he didn't ruin your stereo system and as long as it was turned off it's probably ok.
