Hey, I've got a 92 ford mustang 5.0. The power steering leaks alot, and I'm considering just removing it. What would be some pros and cons with this decision? I know it will be harder to turn, especially at low speeds. But i've heard that it'll increase performance too. Any thoughts?

"Hey" is for horses . . . oh, wait, we're talking "Mustangs", right? Never mind! ;)

Seriously, though, I can't imagine why you'd want to go through all the effort of converting your vehicle in an unnecessary and expensive way, especially as any weight loss and mileage gain would be trivial, at best, when all you have to do is replace the power steering unit or hose, which is far easier and less expensive.

There are no "pros" to removing power steering from a car. If your friends are thinking that the weight savings will improve your car's speed, forget it. The car is a good little car but by no means a race car and you just wind up looking dumb if you try to make it into one.

You would get a slight performance increase, but you would have to replace the steering gear box. Otherwise will work.

It will be like driving a bull dozer without a steering mechanism. But you'll get some wicked big arms.

less weight up front means better weight transfer. unless its a drag car dont remove it. its going to be harder to drive than you think. driving around a parking lot could turn dangerous. you will have to change your belt to a shorter one too.
