This a question that matters on how you actually look at life. Are you optimist? If so, then the moments that take your breath away....the other choice would be a more pessimistic diagnosis. I personally think both though. Every breath you take is a breath closer to death...hold your breath a long as possible sometimes to simply make the moment last longer...and the moments that take your breath away are the moments you will remember all your life...they are the ones that made the largest impact.
Hope this helps

Life is measured by the breaths you take.

Living is measured by the moments that take your breath away.

haha well first of all this is more of a philosophical question

also its not a realistic question, you cant technically have a right answer, since its not a legit question.

If you're looking for opinions, I'd say that life is measured by how you want to measure it. Each person will do so differently. Some people wont measure it at all. This question is kind of skirting around the edge of a bigger question that has long been wreacking havoc on peoples' minds: what is the meaning of life?

The correct answer to this question is that there is no answer. Each person creates their own meaning, and is their own individual. The meaning of life for me is happiness. I want to be happy with my life, and be able to look back on it when I'm old and retired and everything and be satisfied with how it has gone... have no regrets.

I assume many other people make that their goal as well.

What entails happiness? This is what differs for every person. Teachnically, some could get happiness out of others' suffering. However, most are happy when they can help others, which is linked to morality.

Morality is dictated by the culture one lives in, and by human nature. For example, most people realize that its wrong to kill. This is because humans are naturally inclined toward this tendency - if we did not think this, society would not survive, because everyone would die out. You see? Same with protection and care for children. Factors such as this are inbred and necessary for survival.

More abstract values are based on the society one lives in. Some have to do with common sense - people value trust because if they didnt, we couldnt communicate because nobody would know whether to believe what anyone else says. There are also more culture specific morals - examples of this lie inrituals. For example, one indian tribe may eat their dead because they feel like this sets the spirits free. However, we might be disgusted by this, and likewise, they might be disgusted by our burying the dead - sticking their captured spirits underground. Right?

Anyway I'm a little on a tangent now, lets get to the point - morals. Many people will feel more satisfied with their lives in the long run if they do service to others because it is part of morality. But this is not a universal purpose of life, its something that is part of our human nature and genetics. That obviously doesnt mean you shouldnt help people - I personally feel like thats a very important part of life.

Measuring life - what is measuring it? Do you mean defining? this question is ambiguous, crafted for people to give the second answer (as can be seen by the above answers). You may want to refine your question so that it's more direct and pointed.

My answer is: Life is what you make of it. Dont sit back and watch it go by.

The fact that you're breathing is all that really matters...I don't measure my life on the breaths I take...I measure my life based upon how I impact others positively or their positive impact on me. In other words my life is mine...but I am not so selfish or hedonistic to apply anything remotely individual given the fact there have been so many contributors. PEACE!

I believe its a little bit of both, living life for yourself is so liberating and essential but then again when you are with someone you truly love or like very much that can also be liberating as well....life is all about balance a lil bit of everything kinda like a buffet makes life the most enjoyable nothing can be measured on one aspect alone.

By breath you take. The number of breaths a person will have in his lifetime is fixed at birth (therefore yogis practice breath restraint to prolong their lives).
The yogis restrain from sex life because rapid breathing during sex also shortens one’s life.

Is the glass half empty or half full?...this question truly depends on your perception of life. Sometimes the breaths you take actually take your own breathe away by what you experience.

well there are different kinds of things that take your breath away and not all of them are good. You have to live your life the way you know is right, because it cant be rewritten - life is a story, so make yours interesting.

That means you are coming to consciousness. Unlessone asks this question then they are no more intellignet than an animal. The meaning of life-
We are not this material body, IE; Race, color, nationality, Religion, mind, intellect, senses, job, etc. We are all eternal spirit souls, part and parcel of the Supreme Soul, also known as Krishna, Allah, Jehovah, Vishnu, etc. We never die, only this mortal body dies. This material world is not our real home, it is called Maya (illusion) and is temporary and full of misery, only one fourth of the souls come here, and the rest are enjoying blissful eternal loving relationships with our Maker named above. We fell here due to envying Gods position. He made the material world for those who want to try to live separately from Him (Which is impossible because He is actually everywhere). After many lifetimes of trying to be happy in this temporary world one becomes frustrated and board and begins to question their existence. We then seek out real happiness, and when one becomes sincere God reveals how to come back Home. Those who are intelligent, take up the process of self realization (Bhakti Yoga) which begins with the chanting of the Maha Mantra (the great mantra for deliverance from all suffering and illusion), which gives one real peace, happiness and reality. Then at the end of life they can give up all material attachments and fully surrender to God and return to the eternal Kingdom, where there is no more birth, death, old age, or disease and be eternally happy. For info go to harekrishnatemple.com Read Bhagavad Gita as it is By Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada. I am so glad I knwo now.
