George Steinbrenner on Dave Winfield?

2007-12-07 06:14:42 · answer #1 · answered by Craig S 7 · 4 0

When this news came to light, Commissioner Vincent suspended Steinbrenner from being involved with most team operations for two years.

The press release came in the evening, while a game was ongoing at Yankee Stadium. No announcement was made in the park, but fans listening to radio heard it and told everyone. A cheer went up. Yes, really. It was bizarre.

Steinbrenner served his two years, was reinstated in full, and has been so ever since. He may or may not ever be inducted into the Hall, but this old suspension is not what is preventing his having a legitmate candidacy someday.
