I am an Anglican, and was slightly upset/offended that the BBC would show such a program on its schedule.

So, do you think that, if the program had made fun of Islam, and the prophet Muhammad, the BBC would have got off without breaking the broadcasting code?

Is Britain becoming like George Orwell once said - "All animals are eqial, but some animals are more equal than others?"

The whole point of the Jerry Springer Opera is that it's a satire on trashy confessional chat shows. The reason that Jesus/God/the Devil are used in the second act is to demonstrate how overblown they all are and how they fail to solve complicated social problems, or in the case of the opera's second act, fail to solve the eternal struggle between good and evil.

I think that the way that religious figures were used in the opera served their purpose, not by any means to insult Christianity but to use them as a device to create an extremely good satire of modern TV culture. Christianity was not the thing being made fun of in the Jerry Springer Opera, it was trash TV.

I would, therefore, say exactly the same thing if the prophet Mohammed was the guest in the second act. Which is why I agree with the rulings on the Jerry Springer Opera- the point of it was not an insult of religion.

Wow, this could nicely be a teach approximately Jerry Springer going to Hell? i might elect to make certain that! appears like a sought after Dante's Inferno! curiously the teach gained awards, too, as a criticism of confessional communicate shows... the Christian components are curiously purely used to make the correct factors with regards to the communicate teach. Yeah, i might say that Stephen green's habit is embarrassing, even though it is not uncommon. the comparable element takes place for fairly much each and every concept-scary production that asserts some thing unorthodox approximately Christianity. evaluate: The final Temptation of Christ, Jesus of Montreal, The Rapture, The Golden Compass, etc. Lazar: Complaining approximately somebody being a bastard is so 18th century. there are numerous extra important and correct issues to whinge approximately interior the Christian faith.

No, the manager who authorized such a thing would at the very least be hounded out of office.

Such a thing wouldn't happen of course as most of us are aware of the consequences of doing something like that.

I don't have a problem with it being shown - it's not my cup of tea so I won't watch it.

If the programme had made fun of Islam then Jerry Springer would probably be dead by now!

I went to see Stuart Lee live a few years back, and although I enjoyed his Mary-Whitehouse-Experience and This-Morning With-Richard-Not-Judy days, I got quite bored of his shock tactic routine about Christ. He also mentioned a little bit about the controversy of the JSTO, probably to see if anyone would watch it for the sake of being shocked.
Be it M****mad (we cant say his name can we?). Christ, Moses, or Isaac, all abrahamic faiths have lost their dogmatic potency over the British audience in comedy or sincerity. I suppose the next move is for BBC to have Songs Of Praise for Islam next.
As for the Orwellian phrase - and by Christ I'm sick of hearing little quotes from his work - I had to study Animal Farm and it stinks of socialist pretence - if you live like a conspiracy theorist, you might as well die like one - graveless and unremembered.

yes i do agree with you. as far as im concered all religions are bunkham and deserve to be questioned, ridiculed, critcised etc, just as any other philosphy or view is (ie political or social theories)
but what we find is, that some religions are able to be criticised and others are not and i dont find this acceptable

i am talking soley about the UK, its no good expecting the same rules to apply in other countries as there are different values there
