Yes, a friend swears he has seen a cigar shaped thing it the sky in Bedfordshire England, it stood still in the sky for a short while, then shot off far into the distance out of site.

I believe he believes he saw it, but I do not believe whatever he saw was an alien craft, which he doers believe.

I have seen many things flying which I couldn't identify, so in that respect I have seen Unidentified Flying Objects.

Why do people automatically think that a UFO is an extra terrestial space craft?

U.F.O. - Unidentified Flying Object.
Not necessarily little green men from Mars!

But anyway, back to the question...
Me and a friend saw a UFO. A small bright light that looked a little like a meteorite (shooting star) except it would instantly change its trajectory at very acute angels, without changing speed. This carried on for about a minute or two and then disappeared.
This fascinated us and we did a lot a research and (even asked experts on light refraction) and so on, to try and explain what we saw, but couldn't find a plausible explanation. Therefore it was a UFO.

Was it an extra-terrestial craft? Maybe, maybe not. Personally I think that there is intelligent life (extraterrestrial) out there; the proof being that they have chosen NOT to contact us!

I have seen one. I suspect it was a student prank by students at the University of Florida. They did a great job but a little thought provided an hypothesis on how to duplicate the visual effect. I'd have to SEE aliens to BELIEVE in aliens.

A strange object appeared over Staffs;during the summer of 1956-crowds watched it pass over-later identified as a weather balloon.

I'm 39, when I was 8 I swear I saw one on the way home from my friends house around 7pm in the autumn just when it was twighlight. It was orange and cigar shaped, and hovered in sky - will never forget it. I lived in Blackpool UK.

Personally? No. But if somebody told me about it, I would probably go:

"....great.... absolutely fascinating... you have to tell me another time about it.... but now I have to run and meet my wife for shopping.. sorry!"

And then I would slowly back away from the person until I am out of sight and then I would run like the wind and make sure I never meet him or her again. The last thing I need in my life are paranoid crazies.

:-)
