A data center is a facility used to house computer systems and associated components, such as telecommunications and storage systems. It is also a more globalized definition used when describing a company's overall functions. (ie, tv station).
A server room is the centralized location for all IT related equipment that is part of a data center facility.

Data Centers are usually bigger and have more equipment than a server room, but the terms can be used interchangably.

Ads like to refer to them as Data Centers. There is no absolute formal definition although a sales type will harp on how a data center has redundant power and cooling.

You might look at www.apc.com they sell UPS and other equipment for server rooms and Data Centers.

Well, technically they could be the same, but server room implies a room of servers at a company for instance, whereas data center is usually a huge building dedicated solely to web services. It could be the size of a bedroom, just with some servers. Most companies don't need much.

For example, a high-tech company might have a server room at their headquarters to run their websites and and email, whereas a huge company that does web stuff as their business (Google, Media Temple, etc) might have a data center -- 4000+ square feet of nothing but servers and stuff.
