I just saw a story about it on the yahoo! homepage.

What's your views on this?

I don't think it has a very nice name.

Maybe its not so much ugly, its more like "average", its pretty sad when an average american is viewed as ugly...

The saddest part is that kids are viewing this.... and they now think they are ugly too. In a society that has their opinions based on looks this could ultimately cause an onslaught of a plastic surgery generation.... :(

I couldn't open your link but I have heard of this before. It is also called "character" modelling. It's kinda fun, and a way for people who don't fit the "high fashion" mould to get into modelling. Sometimes ad agencies or whoever want a regular-looking "girl next door" or a geeky looking guy, for their campaigns, and why not? We can't all look like Kate Moss (thank goodness! I wouldn't want her problems!). I think you still need to have that special "IT factor" though and be photogenic and confident in front of the camera.

Well, I don't particularly like the name. I think it is insulting. However, it is descriptive. The models know what this agency is looking for when they sign up. Clients know what they're looking for and this helps them find the right people.

Artists before the advent of photography often preferred to sketch or paint the less than beautiful. The planes, angles, and shadows are often much more interesting and dramatic.

Yes,I seen a show on this last night.

I think it's great to have models that might not be considered conventionally good looking, but I don't like the name "Ugly Modeling".

Yeah, I think they should definitely rethink the name. But as long as the participants are willing, more power to them!

It would be real kick in the a-- to be walking down the street or be hanging out at a club and "getting discovered".

I saw it on MSN.com briefly. I'm not sure how this will work especially since we live in a society that is constantly trying to be politically correct.

But there will be many I'm sure that will take advantage of this. Everyone is looking for their 15 minutes of fame. Or should I say shame in this case?

The ugly word is not politically correct. There should be modeling for all ages, sizes and shapes, it'd be fair.
