I'm for it.
I don't believe it's ethical, BUT if we don't do any animal testing, that's like saying that we shouldn't try to understand how animals work.
If we do understand how some animals are immune to some things, we can find medicine that could save human lives!
The idea of using criminals would be bad idea. Since they could be wrongfully accused...and if new evidence came up, and they were found innocent, that wouldn't be fair at all if they had brain damage from tests done on them!

I am totally against animal testing.
1. Animals are not there for humans to do anything we want with. Many animals have developed and died from cancer due to testing. Many animals have developed deformities. Abusing animals is not acceptable.
2. Animal testing has helped with vaccines, but often the results of the tests are still not good enough to be used on humans. Animals have different body chemistries than humans and all of the vaccines have had to be changed before they can be used on humans anyway.
3. Animal testing is a dangerous process, since anyone can test anything they want on animals without repercussions. There are very few rules within the laboratories and the rules are easily gotten around.
Take care,
Troy

It depends entirely on the purpose of the testing.
If your survey results are to be even remotely valid, you have to provide a way for respondents to give more than just a black/white, yes/no, true/false response. You need to be prepared to analyze the data for more than just binary responses. Additionally, there is little to no validity gathering survey data here because you have absolutely no way of knowing if people answer more than once, what their demographics are, what they do or do not know about animal testing...etc.
You also might get more responses if you post this in the survey category. Also, this topic has been addressed MANY times in Yahoo Answers, so you might find some interesting feedback if you search the existing knowledge base.

I am against animal testing, but probably for different reasons than most people. I am also against vaccines and antibiotics. I personally believe in my body's own defense.
Using animals to test human treatments could not be too accurate. Animals have different immunities than humans, and vise versa.
Good luck on your project.

Right ask the hard ones. To me it all comes down to what that lab rat has done for the democratic process or what are his/her contributions to the industrial revolution were. Would you like your son or daughter dying to save the life of one little white rodent? Your son or daughter might grow up to be a Nobel prize winner, will the rat? This is a controversial topic and I'm probably going to get scores of 'Thumbs Down' but that's the way it is. It's a matter of what you think and how important do you think human life is. It's terrible to kill anything wantonly but if killing a single rat saves the life of a child who may go on to world reknown I personally believe it's worth it. Is that serious enough for you? Okay i'm heartless but you did ask.

I think that animal research for the purposes of advancing medical technology and procedures is a worthwhile cause; there are many advances that would not have been possible without it.
Testing on animals for purely cosmetic purposes, on the other hand, is selfish.

I am completely against animal testing. It is against animal rights and it is one of the many problems in our world. If the animals could somehow take revenge on us, I'm sure they would. No, I'm not an animal freak who's a member of PETA, but I believe that all living things have their rights. If we need to test something, why test it on animals when humans are the ones using the products? Honestly, I think in that way, humans (all of them, including you and me) are idiots. I'm sorry, and I'm sure you aren't that bad if you decided to use it as a product, but even if you are for animals rights, you probably still used a product just like me without even realizing it.
Good luck with your project!

I am for animal testing for medical purposes, but not for cosmetic purposes. It can be, and usually is, done humanely. Humanity has benefited greatly from animal testing.
