Pick One:

--People have spent the past 26 years and counting being fed this "story" in the Mass Media: The story of life being a rat-race, of people needing to be cutthroat to get by. And wouldn't you know it, the workplace backs this one up.

And so basically, when you've been told this lie, over and over again, and when you've been forced to swallow it over and over again, just to get a paycheck and put food on the table....after a while, it becomes you. You may or may not verbally assent to it, but it becomes the lifestyle you live by default. It takes *effort* to snap out of that trance, to not *act as if* Greed is God, as if Political Correctness were some sort of Deadly Sin.....

It takes effort to snap out of it and to relate to people *as people*, as *ends in and of themselves*, versus seeing them as a *means to an end*, as objects or pawns to be manipulated, browbeaten, bullied and cast aside.

It's basically a Mass-Media induced form of Stockholm Syndrome. We've been brainwashed for the past 26 years or so, to *act as if* we sympathize with those who abuse us, from Big Oil on down.

And/Or...

--People just can't be bothered to *make an effort* anymore. Love is work folks. Seriously, it takes work to *not give up* on someone, no matter what. It takes work to reach out to people, even if they're ugly or rude or nasty.

And truthfully, most people are stuck in a very toxic sort of grind, and have been since they were teenagers, expected to juggle two jobs, high school, buying a car *with their own money* and paying for needed dentistry *with their own money*. Just for example:

So one could argue that it's the nature of the times as well, that people are so overworked, stressed-out, isolated and alienated that really, reaching out to people *some days* is just too much extra work.

It sucks, I know....but what can you do?

Hope this helps....thanks for your time. ^_^

It's fulfillment of how the Bible said people would be in our day and time.

2 Timothy 3:1-5
But know this, that in the last days critical times hard to deal with will be here. 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, self-assuming, haughty, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, disloyal, 3 having no natural affection, not open to any agreement, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, without love of goodness, 4 betrayers, headstrong, puffed up [with pride], lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godly devotion but proving false to its power; and from these turn away.

Because some people make it very difficult for everybody else to love them.
