As a man, I would *never* beat or harm my future-wife. She would be my equal, my second half: Thus, inflincting harm upon her would be inflicting harm upon myself, because we both would be one. Moreover, I'm not the type of person who enjoys giving pain to other people (I'm definitely not sadistic).
Most men do not beat their wives. It's only a small portion of men who beat their wives. I'm assuming the reason has to do with being emotionally unstable due to emotional issues they have within themselves. Plus, they don't value their wives as their second half; thus, they don't feel guilty about causing them physical pain. You said to not blame acohol, but in many circumstances of domestic violence, alochol is the cause (if not emotional issues).

I've been the pregnant abused wife - there is no excuse or reason. My ex used to drink do drugs and played big style on a mild personality disorder. These men are scum, they are cowardly bullies and control freaks. My heart goes out to every fellow victim and I think all these men should be locked up together so they can abuse each other, preferably in a secure prison on a remote island somewhere!!

the same reason that some women make the worst choice possible and then wonder why it all went wrong, plus ignore the best advice at the time and ignore all the clues, then blame the ignoramus that they chose in the first place, and the classic, its all his fault!...... the clue is in the question, in a proper relationship both sides look for an equal a partnership as you can, the disaster occurs when you think its his job to TAKE CARE OF YOU like some helpless child, so where is the respect to come from, instead of someone to help shoulder the burdon you end up with a liability, then the resentment grows to contempt in the end.

I don't know but when you find out let me know. I have been in 4 seperate relationships where i have been hit, my first seriously relationship that i got into was at the age of 14 and he was 18, we were together a year befor he started letting his true self come out and that is when he started getting physical. One night we had gotten into a pretty serious fight and he punched me in the face broke my nose, head butted me, kicked me right square in my stomache cracking and severly bruising 3 ribs, and dislocated my shoulder. Well the next night i started having extremely bad stomach pains and was bleeding(didn't know i was pregnant), i noticed i was releasing these clumps the size of a baseball, so i went into the doctor the following night and come to find out i was 5 months pregnant and lost the baby:( I felt like my heart was being ripped out of my chest at that moment and like an idiot i stayed with the man, i kept telling myself that if we knew i was pregnant he wouldn't have done that, not to mention i was sooo young but thankfully after about 3 years i left him and have never been happier since. I met this other man whom i married and now have a 3 month old baby girl with.:)

Men who do this usually had parents who acted the same way, so at a deep, maybe subconscious level they think it's normal. Fortunately there aren't too many men like this.

that's just it. a woman's vulnerability plays a lot into it i think. some men just don't get, or were never taught not to hit women. and for those they are losers. straight trash. it's something in them that tells them it's right and they will feel better about it i.e. satisfied when it's all over.

Tough times can bring out the worst in a person. When a woman is pregnant a guy is more likely to cheat too. I guess both are ways of avoiding the reality of the situation.

You fail to mention men who are abused by a partner, usually through mental abuse.

i am not sticking up for him at all becasue i think it is absolutely disgraceful.....
they may have been brought up around violence (ie.. their dad did it to their mum)
they may feel jealous of the baby or not want their wife to have a baby.
I think more women suffering from domestic violence should come on it the open, then we could really do something about tese disgusting men who prey on women when they are most fragile.
