Generally when you fill out an application there is a box that ways have you been convicted of a crime. Did your friend check that box?
They can certainly fire you for lying on an application.
If the company has reason to believe, legitimately that their business, or integrity may be at stake by continuing employment then yes they can fire the person.
However I am willing to bet that your friend stated on the job application that he has a clean record and is being fired for lying on a job application.

Absolutely. The media frenzy of fostering fear has made sex offenders the popular people to hate without committing a hate crime. All sorts of discrimination occurs and no one can do anything about it now. According to most citizens all sex offenders are hiding in trees waiting for a pampers donned toddler to come along so they can pounce when this couldn't be farther from the truth. Stranger danger is far less likely to occur. In fact, in case you haven't noticed, the child molesters are most frequently someone the child knows and trusts. Also, molesters are not all the same. 3 things MUST be considered 1) age of victim 2) age of abuser 3) how much time the offender has done.
While some are incurable, some merely made mistakes and have changed their way of thinking. This makes them less likely to re-offend. In fact go to the link below and see the stats for yourself.
Empower yourself. Knowledge is power. Don't fear what you do not understand, learn about it and become enlightened.

Depends on the job. If your friend works with children in his job then they certainly can and must.
If your friend lied on his application concerning his criminal history then they can.
His company may have a probationary period for employment. That is usually around 90 days but it can be up to 6 months for some jobs. If they do then they can fire him inside that time for any reasons other then discrimination of race, sex, age, religion, or physical disability.
Other then these he should consult with a lawyer or if he is in a Union he should talk to his rep.

Yes, it is legal. Some occupations involving children especially will fire people who appear on the list. Teachers at public schools are likely to get fired.
Also, remember when you work for a company, you usually sign papers saying you will comply to their policies. Firing someone over a legal matter is not considered discrimination.

It is legal if he is on the sex offenders registry as a convicted felon but stated on his job application that his record was clean.
He may have been fired for lying, not for being on the sex offender registry.

Usually yes, this is legal. Most states are work at will states and this means that you can be fired at any time for any reason or no reason at all.

Yes! It is legal. And it should be. Sex offenders need to be shipped on a island and left there. This is a proven fact, Sex offenders cannot be rehabilitated. I wouldn't want one working on a job with me. As far as I am concerned, they should be castrated before they go to the island. Why would you have a friend like this?
