If we required all our musicians to be good role models - we would have never had any of the fantastic music we have today.... Billie Holiday would be banned for heroin.... Janis Joplin, Jimmy Hendricks, and pretty much any music from the 60's & 70's - Elvis was a pill popper as was Johnny Cash. (just to name a few) So, if we are going to start requiring good behavior - say good bye to all music as we know it now.

If the Grammy awards only nominated people who were good role models, lots of past winners would have been out of the running. Between singers who drink, do drugs, and have allegations against them of misbehavior of all kinds, Amy Winehouse doesn't look any worse than 90% of them. Besides, where do you draw the line? As soon as a singer gets a DUI do they become disqualified? A parking ticket? Who would decide who is a good role model and who is not?
The Grammys are for singing and songwriting and so forth. No one ever claimed that the music industry was a boy scout troop (or girl scouts, as the case may be). Let the woman sing. Let her win some awards. Maybe it'll inspire her to straighten out her life.

A Grammy nomination or win has nothing to do with a persons behavior. It is an award for that persons work. Nothing more, nothing less. She is not in school, she is an adult who can do as she pleases. If she wants to do drugs and get in trouble, it is her business, certainly not mine. Her work is what is being judged, nothing else.

I am OK with them. The nominations are based on her music, and should not be considered an endorsement of how she behaves in her personal life.

If being a bad role model disqualified people from getting awards, Michael Jackson needs to give every one of his back.

It is based on talent & talent only. Just because she does what she wants in her personal life doesn't matter when you look at her music sales. It's none of our business. The media just makes it our business. Who are we to judge??

I agree with you. She is a bad role model, but she is talented; however,I don't think this will help her clean up her act.
She has to do that on her own time.
