I am using Vista. My DVD drive is telling me that a disc is installed even though the drive is empty. I am advised to "save any files open on the disc and then close files and programmes before ejecting the disc". I have tried a restore but am advised that there are no restore points available.

You probably took out a disc before it was thru writing. You need to manually close your CD writing program.

Sounds like you queued up some files to be written to a CD or DVD, and then never gave it a disk to put them on. Put in a blank disc and see what happens....
