Yeah, sure, I'll buy that. ^_^

Catch is, I think you have to look at more than just attention to faith. This isn't just about "gift-giving versus religious piety", ok?

This is a specific *kind* of gift-giving, to you and yours, mainly for self-interested reasons (wanting to see them happy) if not outright selfish ones (wanting to get cool gifts in return). And it's also about the kinds of gifts that you can *buy* with money.

So I don't just see this as a diversion of attention away from faith, mind you. I also see it as a diversion of *money* and *time* away from giving of yourself to those in need. Yes, we do have churches and other organizations donating food and gifts to needy people for Christmas....as well as year-round.

But what would happen, this Christmas, if ALL of the money spent for gifts given to family and friends actually *went to* important social causes instead? What would happen if the biggest gift we gave this year was to our most poor and desperate people in our society?

I know....it's a bit much to ask, isn't it? We don't want to anger and alienate our family and friends after all.

And we don't want to "walk the walk" after we "talk the talk" about Peace on Earth and Goodwill Towards Men. We're so used to pampering ourselves and those close to us that other people hardly enter the picture. We're so used to "letting others handle it", the charities and churches, that we hardly realize that *we ourselves* might have a responsibility for our fellow human beings. In general, not just the ones we know or the ones we're fond of.

So, yes....it's a diversion. Of money, attention, and *goodwill*. I think that last one is the most crucial of all. The last thing our Scrooges out there want of us is to start *seriously giving* and to start *seriously* solving problems that *they exploit* for profit.

Just saying....good question! ^_^

There can be no sutler technique to inform her that you just admire the sentiment and no longer the present. Maybe you will have to check out a little bit of the opposite if you'll come throughout a few models that you just would supply her, matters she does no longer want, matters that don't move with the best way she is adorning her condo or already has adequate of. Let her get a consider for the way it i to get matters she does no longer want. It would possibly sink in simpler that manner.

if you really think about it, just about every holiday invovles people spending lots of money in a unnecessary way. i don't believe in such rituals.

i think of lot of things distract us from truth. sometimes we may give to people not because we care about them, but just so we ourselves can feel good.

but you can't blame gift giving for the destruction of a religious holiday. it's people that choose this, not the gifts.
