Does it bother you seeing Christmas lights up or having people wish you a "Merry Christmas" in passing? Why or why not? I just ask because it seems like everything is called "Holiday" now. I went to purchase a Christmas tree and the sichn was advertising Holiday Trees! I figure if we don't buy these trees any other time besides Christmas why cant they be called Christmas trees? I don't personall celebrate Kwanzaa but I am not offended when someone says "Merry Kwanzaa" (which does happen to me). Please explain why this does or does not bother you personally.

To Mr. Math~ i agree with on the Columbus thig! My 8th grade class was given an assignment to write an essay on "how columbus discovered America" and how great it was and all that and I titled mine "How Columbus stole the credit for discovering America". Needles to say they submitted everyones essay but mine!

I apologize, I made a mistake...the trees at the store were not called Holiday trees, they were called "Family Trees", which makes even less sense to me!

"...a rose, by any other name..."
Holiday tree indeed (snort), this air of political correctness is so irritating. A christmas tree, a hannuka bush, who cares what it is called? What it represents is the most important thing...but when being "politically correct" is more important than tradition, well, this country is in big trouble folks. Tradition is the glue that binds us as a people. Someone wishes me Merry Christmas, I wish it back and say thanks....someone says "Happy Holidays", I just look at them, then ask which holiday did you have in mind?
Personally, I think we need to stand up for our traditions. Or sure as night follows day, we will lose them and thereby lose the foundations of our culture.

Even though I celebrate Christmas...

I love to see the Christmas tree lights, when they are tastefully done. Too many lights just seems wasteful. The lights make the nights seem magical.

I love to be wished a Merry Christmas or to have a Happy Holiday. People are just being friendly. I take the 'Have a Merry Christmas' as just that. I take the 'Have a Happy Holiday' as just that too... I don't read anything into what the person means.

To me, a Christmas tree has always been a Christmas tree and will always be a Christmas tree

The lights are just lights and are beautiful to look at. I won't put them up in my own home though. When people say Merry Christmas in passing, I simply say "thank you"...I don't have the right to judge them for what they choose to celebrate - and there is no need - then and there - to share my beliefs with them when they honestly are just being friendly. And since God is the ONLY judge, I feel that being offended would be making a judgement which I don't have the right to do. That being said, I also have the right to stay away from the Christmas celebrations. I don't know anything about the trees though.

While I do celebratwe Christmas, I prefer the greeting "Happy Holidays" and do not say merry Christmas except for on the 24th and 25th.

I am fine with refering to the trees as Holiday Trees since they are usually put up the day of or day after Thanksgiving (a holiday) and stay up until New Years Day (a different holiday). The tree is up for a whole span of many holidays.

If the tree was put up on the 24th and taken down on the 26th I would have no problem with it being specifically refered to a Christmas Tree as it would only be up/seen/decorated for Christmas.

Well, I am more bothered by New Year's Eve than I am with Christmas. It's just a stupid tradition. Another year, whoopee-doo. I may sound naive, but who cares? It's just another day.

Second holiday I am more bothered with is Columbus Day. This guy was directly and indirectly responsible for an almost complete eradication of the Native Americans and other indians in Latino America and South America. And we honor him for that???

Third holiday I am bothered with is Halloween. I firmly believe that Halloween is dying right now. There are less trick-or-treaters out there today. I think it's a dumb holiday because candy is more important than school?

Christmas is nice when you get presents. As far as religion goes, I couldn't give two f cks about it.

There are other holidays in December..that why they are holiday trees. You call it what you want depending what you celebrate. I buy a tree and I call it a holiday tree and I call lights holiday or winter lights. Things can have different meanings to different people.

Well, I celebrate Christmas, and as an assignment for my students (junior high) they had to research how Christmas was celebrated in another country and give a presentation on it. (Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, whatever) My kids are really enjoying it, but I have a colleague who's a Jehovah's Witness, and he was really offended by my assignment, and said not everybody celebrates Christmas and I shouldn't force my beliefs on other people.

Kinda felt like he was forcing his beliefs on me...

When I was younger we didn't celebrate Christmas, but we didn't expect people to conform to our norm. If you don't celebrate, just see pretty lights and edit yourself, instead of asking other people to change to your reality. I now celebrate Christmas, but I respect all the holidays and enjoy seeing the decorations.

its all nonsense..miserable people just feel the need to complain about anything and everything..its a shame when you cant say something as simple as merry christmas without people having an uproar, you can be courteous and say thank you same to you..its not that serious..i feel you everyone is so concerned with being pc nowadays
