Ok, I have a windows xp and for some reason every 10 seconds my computer freezes for about 2 seconds.. This really sucks because when im playing a game it makes it difficult. What could be the problem to this? Loose video card? Something lose in the computer? Fan, not working right? Also, it's not my connection or anything because I checked. Another thing.. I went into safemode and did task manager to check if anything else was running.. it shows that nothing was. I also ran spyware and Ccleaner, what can I do to fix this? :(

The game i'm playing is a low graphic game, my video card is way more than enough forit, same with memory. I know I've had some type of virus before that makes me go to different sites whenever i click a link.. but it never caused this before :

Only major programs will be run in safe mode. Checking for programs there is pointless. If your comptuer does not behave as if it's running slowly, I would say your computer is having problems reading virtual memory, or temporary memory storage on your harddrive.

Run a defrag on your harddrive and Check Disk (right click on your primary harddrive > Properties > Tools > "Check Now" button. Doing these should improve your harddrive performance. If it doesn't help much, it is time to upgrade your memory.

If it only does it when you're playing the game, then you need more memory. Either the computer itself does not have enough memory to run the game, or your video card doesn't have enough memory to handle to graphics. If the video card were loose you would get what we call BIOS beeps when you first turn on the computer. I am rusty, but a loose video card would have one long beep and 2 short ones. Your computer also will not startup.

If the problem occurs all of the time, then scan your computer for viruses, trojans, worms, etc. Scanning for just spyware is not enough. In either situation, check to make sure you have adequate memory. If you have adequate memory, and the virus scans turn up with nothing, then save all important files and reformat.

You could have a virus or spyware running on your computer. To check for that, I would suggest downloading AVG Free 8.0 or Ad-ware 2008 and make sure they don't come up with anything. Also, you should try disabling/uninstalling any programs or services that you don't use. If you know how, then check all your hardware and make sure that nothing's overheating and that everything is functioning properly. Sometimes a scratched motherboard can cause a computer to freeze. Hope that answers your question!

You could have a virus. It is hard sometimes to find them even if you are using a program to fix it. You may want to take your computer to a place to professionally get it checked out. Something loose in your computer will not cause freezing. If you were losing video or sound then I would tell you that is what is wrong. It sounds like a virus and you will probably have to take it in to get it removed.

My guess would be overheating or not enough RAM...can you give me some more specs about your computer? Your hard drive could be failing on you as well as a incorrect windows install.

Is your powersupply strong enough to power everthing properly? Look at minimun requirments for your graphics card and other devices.

I need more info, Is it only freezing when you play games or on your desktop? If its only games then I have to change my answer :)

maybe your video card isnt enough for the game you are playing..for example, the game needs 128mb of video card, and you only have 64mb, you will get your problem.. also if you have a game that needs 128 and you have 128, there are also little problems.. also the specs of your pc didnt match the requirement or recommended specs of the game..
probably it s the memory or the video card thats slowing the game down..upgrade memory and video card if this is the problem..also cool your pc..add fans..replace processor fans every year..

if it is a virus use avg free, spybot search and destroy, lavasoft ad aware, there are free versions of those on the net..scan your pc with them..
