Has anyone else had this experience? My temp spikes every month and I think I'm ovulating, but those damn OPK strips never come back positive! Do I need to go to a doc to see if I am ovulating for sure?

What kind of doctor? Fertility specialist or can an OBGYN test?

OPK's are not a designed to determine if you ovulate or not. There only purpose is to determine if and when you have your LH surge. This is a surge most (not all) women get about 12-24 before ovulation. Remember though that some women only have a surge for less than 12 hours so if you only test once a day you will miss it. The best time to test is at 10 am and then around 5-6 pm. Also different brands of opk's work better than others. My doctor said I could use opk's in addition to my charting but to really only go by what my chart says. If you are getting a spike in temp that remains elevated until close to your next period most likely you are ovulating. If you have been ttc for over a year (and have been having intercourse around the time your temp spikes each month) then see your doctor. I would start with your ob/gyn and he/she will probably do a progesterone bloodtest on you and that will determine if have ovulated that cycle. It is usually done around days 21-23 of your cycle. Your ob/gyn can even order a sperm analysis for hubby and get alot of the bloodtests and exams done for you and then if needed refer you to a specialist. The ob/gyn will be less expensive and will probably be covered under your insurance where a specialist may not be. Visit the website http://www.peeonastick.com to learn more about which opk's are the best and to find out usefull info on them. I had 12 positive opk's in a row and I know I wasn't ovulating 12 days straight. Those things can be really confusing. Best wishes ttc.

Some women have a short surge that may not be detected by testing OPKs once a day. It would be a good idea to see a doc to see if you are ovulating. You may still be ovulating, but sometimes the OPKs just don't work for some women. Your doc may suggest testing OPKs twice a day, within 12 hours of each other.

Do Ovulation Strips Work

Trust the BBT. Don't trust the OPK's.

OPK's don't work for everyone. I've never had a truly positive OPK... in my opinion, they are a waste of money. I've talked to people who had negative OPK's their entire cycle, but got pregnant anyway because the OPK just didn't pick up the LH.

Good luck!

My wife used them for a few months when we started trying, and they never showed she ovulated at all. She had been worried about exactly the same thing - was she ovulating at all . . . and she must have been, since she's 10 weeks pregnant now.

Good luck!
