Above and beyond all the responses above, there is another thing to consider. With the frequencies that you are operating on the motherboard, any calcium or deposits from the water after it dries could cause a capacitance bridge across connections which can wreak havoc with the operation of your computer. Cleaning your mobo with >90% alcohol could clean the mobo of these deposits. No guarantee.

Usually if a laptop gets wet and then will not turn on, it is history. It might be possible to remove the hard drive and try accessing it as a secondardy drive in another computer and see if you can recover any data. But that is about the best you can hope for.
Although...I had a laptop that was running under a water pipe when it brought, and the laptop literally was drown in over four feet of water. I let the thing dry for about two months before turning in on, and to my suprise it worked!! The company had already written it off their books and collected insruance money. So I took it home with me. Four years later it is still my primary PC at home. (Go figure!!)

Water + electronic components = BAD
Honestly, as an avid computer user and builder, I can tell you that you're better of getting a new computer, and getting data recovery help for you information.
Water fries electronics, and wreaks major havoc. You MIGHT be able to get it to work if you do what the other guy said, but I guarantee you that your computer will run hotter, and less efficiently, and thats only for a short time until it stops working altogether from rust and corrosion, or until it blows up.
Seriously, get a new computer.

If you didn't thoroughly dry it out before trying to turn it on, it's dead.
Even if you did, there's a very good chance it's dead anyways. Probably time for a new computer. You can still recover data off the HD with either just a software program or by sending the drive out for professional recovery, which can run $200 or so.

Worst thing you can do is try to fire a computer up after you spill water all over it. I trust you yanked the power cord out because even with your puter off you still have power to the motherboard. Take the side panel off and get what water you can out of it and let it dry out for 2-3 days then try it. Hard to imagine how a lot of water ended up in your PC but you may be looking at buying a new one.

just 1 question:
is the computer turned on when all the "water" splashes?
if not - you can save it by using a hair dryer.
if yes - go buy new pc, and please keep it away from any possible water splash..
