I bought a new 2007 Honda Civic about 3 weeks ago. After having it only a week the horn started to go off at odd times and it would stay on until I hit it to make it stop. I live 70 miles from the dealer. I have had it in there 2 times, they havent fixed it. They pretty much have called me a liar because they wont keep it for more than an hour and it happens so randomly. They say they dont have to give me a loaner but that I can rent a car from Enterprise. NOW I am dealing with Honda corporate, but I am having a hard time getting them to return my calls. I originally just wanted it fixed. Now it is getting worse and other things are acting strange. When the horn goes off my cruise control doesnt work. The excitement of having a new car is long gone. I hate the car now. I want to take it back because it has been such a hassel. What can I do legally to make them take care of this, and can I take it back if they keep putting me off?

Yeah usually there are lawyers that specialize in lemon law cases. I would give one a call. A letter from your lawyer will make them snap to attention.

Amy, this would be an extremely rare case of these types of problems for this car. The Civic has arguably the best over-all reliablity than any car on the market, but I can understand how you feel. Unfortunately, when problems are that random it is difficult to diagnose, and if it's a situation where it doesn't throw a code it makes it even more difficult.

The dealership should be doing a better job of taking care of you. I would suggest getting a lawyer...it's going to cost you some money, but anytime a lawyer gets involved it's amazing how fast things get resolved.

I sold Honda's for 5 years and never once heard of an issue like the one you are having, like I said it's rare for that type of a problem. I have seen instances where a customer claimed he was having issues with his Accord, but our service department could never get it to replicate the problem. The regional Honda service manager took the proper steps and got him into a new Accord...it wasn't over night, but they did get him a new car.

Be patient....in this case get a lawyer, since this dealership is not helping much....and get in touch with the regional service manager.

wow, unbelievable. those are great cars. Sounds like the computer is glitchy in it or there is a short somewhere electronically which can be really hard to find.

kja is right, check the lemon laws for your state. If there are so many problems in a 6 month period you can take the car back.

I would park the thing in front of service and lock it up and go somewhere with a friend for the day and see what that say when you come back.

clock springs behind the steering wheel or an electrical problem. Drop it off, along with a letter from a lawyer.

If you are in the USA, most states have "Lemon Laws" on the books.
