He's a megalomaniac Machiavellian. He only promotes socialism because it is a proven way to gain and keep political power ( take from Peter to pay Paul, and forever buy the vote of the increasing number of Pauls).
Were capitalism the proven formula for the attainment of political power, instead of the proven formula for the advancement of the individual, Spitzer would drop socialism like a hot potato.
