Hello,
I am looking for a good keyboard to practice with, and to hook up to my computer to create music using software on my PC. I have heard that Yamaha keyboards are usually better than Casio (more professional, better sounding, etc). But I would like to know if the PSR-295, which has less keys, and is not a workstation keyboard, would still be better than the Casio WK110? When answering, please state some reasons why one is a better deal than the other.

One thing that makes me want to go for the WK over the PSR is the fact that the WK comes with an adapter and stand, while PSR does not come with either.

Both are stated as having touch sensitive keys.

The way one sounds over the other is not as important to me as the physical quality of the keyboard (as, I will be doing most of my recording with it hooked up to the computer).

This is for people who have actually tried both keyboards of these models (if you have not tried these models, then please don't answer this question).

I don't own a PSR-265, instead I use a PSR-730, but allow me to answer anyway.

It's always better to play a keyboard before you buy, but if you can't get your hands on one, then look for features. Very important, does the unit have midi connections, because if you wish to connect to a computer, midi is important, and not just midi out, but also midi through. Second, does the unit have a memory input, IE, a place where you can insert a flash memory card?

The Casio will probably have a few more features over the Yamaha. Is this important, that's hard to say. I have a ton of features on the 730 but I really don't use many of them. The 16 channel sequencer is nice though because is allows me to record or edit midi files. I know this can be done on my computer too, but it's really convenient to have them right on the keyboard.

Last comment. I've had my 730 for 7 or 8 years and it's still works just like the day I bought it. And I play the thing allot. So much so, that a couple of the number pad key no longer have numbers.

Hope I helped a little.

This is one of the most interesting questions I've seen here. The answers are also interesting, accurate, and even surprising. It's been my small observation that many men still think they have the better deal and "women's work" is boring. One thing that surprised me in reading the answers is how many women said positive things about the work they do and how satisfying it can be. I've worked outside the home in high tech industries that housework can't hold a candle to as far as complexity, and interesting subject matter and I like the stimulating environment. I would go bonkers trying to raise kids. I would also go bonkers with fear if I had to fight in a war. I agree that roles are changing, but there is still a lot of social pressure for people to look or act certain ways. For example, women can wear just about anything, but a man could lose his job, family, even his life, if he wore women's clothes in public. I think I'll ask a question about this sometime. I also see how men can benefit financially from their education and work. Many women still try to marry someone who can support them. Even so, if they don't benefit enough financially from the marriage, and outlive their spouse, then they may have little money, or education to rely on when they get older. She may not have had good paying jobs long enough to get social security so she may face poverty. It's a tough question to answer, but a good answer can help many people. Perhaps the best way to get by is to not worry about things you can't change and learn to get along as well as you can with what you have available (i.e. talents, knowledge, possessions, whatever.)
