I'm not having kids. But, if I did have kids, we'd all learn Arabic together. It would be loads of fun speaking it in public and watching the dip sh*t reactions of all the ignorant bigots who think everything Arabic sounds like "al-Qaeda," "Osama bin Laden," "jihad," "damn America," and "terrorist".

When I have kids I will have them learn which ever language they are interested in and at least one other. I have studied Spanish because I had always wondered if I could be getting insulted in another language and I would never know, and since there are alot of Spanish speaking people where I am from I wanted to learn Spanish. LOL Well, that was my initial reason when I was a child, but I would love to be bilingual so that I could earn more money (you know they pay you more when you can speak more than one language).

Yes, I plan on teaching my children Spanish - not because of the large population of Spanish-speaking people in the States, per se.
I took a lot of Spanish during high school and college and I just think it's really important to know another language as well as English. If I had taken Russian or German, then that's what my children would be learning....but I took Spanish, so I'm going to teach them!
:-)

If you are referring to USA specifically, the better answer is to insist that since it is an English speaking country, it's residents speak English.

In a global economy, I have found that Mandarin would be a much more valuable language at this time. Save the Spanish for vacation trips to Mexico.

Well, they'll learn Spanish in school (it's part of the curriculum in NYC). I would like for my kids to speak more than 2 languages, just in case they find themselves needing to know more than English.

NO!! Welcome to the U.S. of A. !! Apprendan a hablar ingles o regresen a su pais!! How come only Hispanics/Latinos feel that the U.S. should cater to them? Wal-Mart, Supermarkets, Home-Depot, Department stores ect- all have to have English and Spanish signs and bilingual people- Why not have French too? Canadians are our neighbors to the North......

Absolutely not. I'm tired of this country forcing spanish on people because the spanish-speaking immigrants refuse to learn english. If you come here speak ----ing english.
