WHY in the NFL boxscore, of the Wash/Chicago game they have it marked a fumble lost when Jason Campbell fumbled out of bounds, when he was hit on the elbow?

no one recovered it, it was a fumble, out of bounds, I know Washington retains possesion, but isn't it a fumble lost out of bounds? what is the official defintion by the NFL when this happens? is it a fumble or a lost fumble since no one recovered?

No. The team in last possession of the ball retains possession when it is fumbled out of bounds. This would be true even if a defensive player made an interception and then fumbled it out of bounds.

Yes, it is a fumble, but not a lost fumble since the offensive team retains possession.
Whoever printed those stats was obviously wrong. Mistakes are made sometimes.

the fumble belongs to the team who last had possession of the football.. the only exception is if a player fumbles it outta the endzone they're about to score in.. then its a turnover and a touchback and the other team gets the ball on the 20

If a player fumbles the ball out of bounds his teams retains possesion, unless it goes out of bounds in the end zone, then it is a touchback.
