There is often a difference between what one person would call a fingertip to what another would. Based on varying finger sizes etc. it could be anywhere from 1/2 to 2 cm.
Either way, you could stay that way for several weeks before anything really happens, or that could be the start of it all - no way of knowing.

A couple of weeks ago I had a fever and went to the ER, and the doctor told me I was 'fingertip dilated' and defined that as one half to one cm. This doctor, however, was a woman with tiny hands, so 'fingertip' is subjective!
I'm now two cm dilated, which is about the width of my thumb. May not be the width of your or your doctor's thumb though!

Just about 1 cm...maybe almost 2cm..depending on how big the fingertip is.

About 1cm there are 2cm in an inch if that helps in general info about it. Short answer but hope it helps.
