I care about both. So should you - how you look will help open the door to people you want to meet, and how you are as a person will get them to stick around.

On one side... well it's kinda hard to say because bottom-line is every man wants a woman who can satisfy him sexually. So appearance can be an important factor in marriage (and if you're pro pre-marital sexual relationship).
On the other side... attraction is a physical and emotional response, while type is merely a preference. What this is saying is, you can actually learn to make guys like you without actually caring whether you're his type or not.
My answer for this question is that there is a very fine balance that I seek between both appearance and personality.
We don't really want a highly attractive wife who is very selfish, egoistic, bossy, etc etc. It's an immediate turn-off.
At the same time, we don't want a smart and wise wife but we end up having to seek sexual satisfactions outside the marriage. *cough*
So my girlfriend has to be sexy, slim, humble, wise, kind-hearted, patient, honest, and loyal. She must not complain, nag and irritate. She has to cook for me and call me everyday. When I'm sick she'd better treat me nicely and I'd better not die coz she can't live without me.

The attraction starts with the appearance, but with me a major turn-off is someone who has no brain in their heads.

I care much more about personality... if a girl is hot but her personality is crappy, then the attraction ends there.....

When I was young, appearance; now that I'm older and smarter, personality is where it's at.
