It doesn't matter what you major in to become a film/tv director or producer. You become either of those things through industry experience. However, English is a very flexible major in terms of career choice, and it's an Art/Humanities major so it fits.

Studying literature will help you become good at understanding what makes a good story (an essential skill to become a director or producer).
