I don't know how I feel. I guess more power to them - but, does their gender or skin tone make them a good candidate?

It's hard to fix sheer stupidity.

I posted this answer to another question today but it fits here also.
That has got to be the stupidest thing I have ever heard. You should vote for who is most qualified to run the country, who has the best moral code, the best value system, the best foreign and domestic policies, the one who stands for the constitution and the beliefs of what this country was founded on, who will protect the rights of the working class people and not take them away, not vote for someone just because they sat at the back of the bus too long! This is coming from a woman, and it has nothing to do with man vs woman or a race card. It is morals and values and what you want this country to become. If you let this become a sexist argument or a race issue then you truely have no idea what turmoil this country is going through and you should take your seat.

Imagine if your entire life you only had a muslim, arab candidate to vote for. Then an election comes along and there is a candidate that is the same race or gender as you. Wouldn't you at the very least listen to the message of that person? Many people feel disenfranchised with the choices that they have historically had. It is good that we are getting more diversity in the pool.

If that's the ONLY reason someone votes for a candidate, because they share the same ethnic background or gender, that is a stupid vote.
I understand the excitement of there being a black candidate and a female candidate who finally have a shot at winning the presidency, but inform yourselves on who you'd be electing! There's a whole package that comes with it, and you may not like the whole package.
I'm a female but I do NOT want to see Hillary take the honor of being the first female US president. I'd rather see a female worthy of that honor, and I don't believe she's anything close to being worthy, based on her character and record.

Well, while it may or may not be a real good reason to vote for somebody it is not that unusual. Plenty of Catholics were proud as hell When JFK got elected. I am sure any ethnic or religious group would be inclined to support one of their own. Even women I guess to some extent. But as the latest Zogby poll shows, Hillary would loose to any of the Major Republican candidates. So, it may very well be Obama who gets the nomination.

I guess it all comes down to what is most important to you. The first this or that may make the history books but is little more than a blip on the radar of your life. It can even be detrimental to other members of that same group if the first one elected does not do a good job. Who knows?

To me, I would elect a Black Female Mormon if she was a true Conservative. My political philosophy is what matters to me. True Conservatism counts for more than anything else to me.

People are going to vote for whoever they wish to vote for for something intent tickles their fancy. You can quit and examine who/why/what and in which for that subject, the outcome is humans are going to vote for whomever they think essentially the most comfy vote casting for. The nation is simply too screwed up without a experience of path and one million problems at the desk so you are fortunate you're going to most effective have TWO applicants sooner or later considering the fact that should you had a couple of, shall we say five, jogging on every facet the margin of win could most probably be so low that you would most probably have a president choose founded on as little as eleven-20 percentage of registered citizens. When it involves LOSING, humans will pull out each and every soiled excuse for why they did not make it....I bet they're gambling all that out prematurely considering the fact that those are simply the style of brain video games humans appear to play. In a country of shallowness, no stone is left unturned. It turns out to me regardless of who wins, you are no extra forward than if Bush carried on, considering the fact that the identical hatred is there now as was once earlier than. You gotta repair that first and albeit I do not believe it is viable.

I would hope that they have a better reason than just "hey, he's black" or "hey, she's a woman". Perhaps some affinity with something that the candidate has said about their plans for the Presidency...

If those are the only reasons, though, it's a heck of a lot better than voting "against" someone.

There aren't many people who are openly admitting to voting for Obama because he's black or women voting for Clinton because she's a woman.

In fact, some polls indicate that Clinton is leading among African Americans, not Obama!

But as to how I feel... well, I would feel the same way most people would. I would say "People should vote for candidates based on qualifications and platforms." However, it should be noted that religion is a big deal in the U.S., much bigger than race and sex, because a lot of people attribute similarity to religion as a similarity in morality. There has been a lot of talk, for instance, about Romney's Mormon background and how it would appeal to conservative Protestants. It's a similar situation to some of the Protestant backlash JFK suffered when he was running as the first Catholic president.

We shouldn't worry about any of these; we need a leader for our country, for we are all in the same boat. Black people pay gas as white people do. Black soldiers got killed as well as white soldiers. When we face challenge that included women and men. So, I'll give Obama my vote, but not because I'm black.

Vote for someone you think that America needs now, do not vote for party, skin, sex or religion.

I don't know that that is what Black people and Women are doing at all. I think the media is saying that is what ther were doing and early on Blacks were overwhelmingly for Clinton. I think this is changing now because Barak has good ideas not because he is Black. The fact that people are counting it and making assumptions about who is voting for whom and why is annoying.

If I vote for anyone, it will be because I think they make sense & can do the job.
If you vote any other way, you are an idiot & wasting a vote.
