You have completed 80% of the classwork with a 91%.

0.80 x 0.91 = 0.728

So if you fail the exam you have at least a 72.8%

But you want to know the minimum to get 80%.

You need 7.2% more. But the exam is only worth 20%, so divide by 0.20 (which is the same as multiplying by 5):

You need 7.2% x 5 = 36% or better.

Here's a summary:

0% gets you 72.8% (Low C, I think)
11% gets you 75% (for a solid C)
36% gets you 80% (minimum for a B- I think)
61% gets you 85% (for a solid B)
86% gets you 90% (around a B+ I think)
91% gets you 91% (that makes sense)
96% gets you 92%
100% gets you 92.8%

The worse you can get is a low C, if you don't take the test or fail it. You should easily be able to get a B. But given that you are averaging 91%, I think you should aim higher than that for at least a B+ if not A-.

I think you can do it.

silly question because you need to achieve the pass mark of the final paper. Do that and you will achieve your B regardless.

cut out trying to reach a grade, just do your best. no one can rightfully complain if you do. parental pressure is too much today.

to answer your mathmatic question, this is my version...

you have a 91 |% class ave.

your class ave makes up 80% of your end score, therefore you currently have 72.8 % total end score.

you need an extra 7.2 % to make the overall 80%, but this is to be gained from only 20 % available.

so, 7.2 is 36% of 20. achieve this figure in the final and on paper you have your 80 ave.

however, i think you would not get the B if you failed to reach an acceptable score in the final.

good luck, and well done on your class score.

actually, the 40% score is the right answer.

If the amount of the class completed so far is worth 80%,
and you have a 91% mark, that means you've earned 72.8 points out of the possible 80.

In the last 20 points, you'll only need 8 more to put you over 80% (a B) for the class. 8/20 is 40%.

ok what i did is i took .91 (% of rest of class) times 80%, the total percentage minus your finals percentage (100-20). that came out to .728, this means you only need 7.2 points to get the 80%. so then i took 7.2/20 to get what you need for you test score. I got 36%. Not very high so you should be ok, as long as you know a little about the test. I'm pretty good at math so i think that's right but not positive.

Don't trust 80% of these answers, 36% is all that you will need to get 80% for your final grade.

going into the final, you have basically 72.8 points out of a total of 100. you need too get at least 7.2 points more to get your B.

7.2 points would equate to a 36 on your final.

91 (.8) + 36 (.2) = 80

72.8 + 7.2 = 80.

but i would set my goal higher than that!

Take 91 and multiply by .80. Then take that number and subtract it from 80. Take your new number and divide it by 20 and that is the percent you must make.

P.S.- Just do your best, don't worry about the math.

Final grade = ( .80 ) ( 91 ) + ( .20 ) ( G )

Plug in your desired final grade and solve for G.

Results not guaranteed; we teachers are a capricious lot and may or may not give you that B if you really slack off on the final.

What you need to do is multiply percentages of points earned by total worth and add them together.

.85(your desired Grade) = (.8(80% of grade)*.91(Overall Grade))+(.2(20% of grade)x(test score)

.85=.8*.91+.2x

if you get x alone, the equation looks like:

(.85-(.8*.91))/.2=x

x=.61

You need a 61% to get an 85%.

85 was just an example, you can try for 80.
