Let mark = X
90 = (94 + 88 + 86 + X) / 4
360 = (268 + X)
X = 92

Test score has to be 92

OR
Exam___Score___± 90
1_______94______+4
2_______88______- 2
3_______86______- 4
4_______X______+ 2

4th mark is 90 + 2 = 92

(94 + 88 + 86 + x) / 4 = 90
(268 + x) / 4 = 90
268 + x = 360
x = 360 - 268
x = 92
therefor
the last score well be 92

The solution to your question can be represented by this equation: (94 + 88 + 86 + X) / 4 = 90. (Remember that in solving an algebraic linear equation, the cardinal rule is "what you do to one side of the equation you must also do to the other side.")

Adding the first three grades, you will get: (268 + X) / 4 = 90.

Solving for X is accomplished thus:

268 + X
----------- * 4 = 90 * 4 = 360
4

268 + X = 360

268 + X - 268 = 360 - 268 = 92

X = 92

How did you ever get a 94 or an 88 or an 86 on any math exam?

2007-12-07 03:22:31 · answer #6 · answered by optitkl 3 · 1 3

Well you need AT LEAST a 92 to get an average of 90. You could also get a 91 and have an average of 89.75. Which rounded up is a 90. Then agian you could get a 90 and get an average of 89.5. So if your teacher rounds your grade up, 90, 91, or 92 will get an average of 90. You could always do better than that though and get a higher average. GOOD LUCK!

(94 + 88 + 86 + X)/4 = 90

94 + 88 + 86 + X = 360

268 + X = 360

X = 360 - 268

X= 92
