As you can see, it depends on who you ask. Everyone has their own agenda.
For me the most important issues are -
1. Health care - primarily how can we provide affordable care for people and still maintain the quality and access to the health system we have today.
2. Removing our dependence on foreign oil.
3. Solve #2 with some renewable form of energy.
In my opinion, if we solve #2, a lot of our other issues go away - in particular our problems with the middle east. If the flow of money dries up headed into the middle east then they will quickly change their tune regarding the west. The middle east becomes a tourist driven economy - they will love us.
I also don't think people, in particular the young voters grasp the issue that health care is about to become. The majority of the American population is aging and will within the next 10 years become a major drag on health care. We don't have time to play politics with this issue, we have to fix it now and it's up to the next president to make it happen.

Immergration enforce the laws we have or make new stricter laws to make sure immergrants come here legally or face consequences of not coming back.
The war on terror needs to be won. Not cut and run out on Iraq until they can manage their own county. That mean training the iraqi military and new government to enforce the laws.
Tax reform. Either go to a flat tax or national sales tax.
Less taxes. The more $ we (people of the US) have in our pockets the more we spend...equaling a healthy economy.
Less Government programs. We are turning more and more sociallist. And historically that system hasn't worked. So the Democrates of today are pushing us towards that way...so naturally republicans are pushing traditional values and not these programs that make us dependant on the government. By depending on the government for things that we earn by working we are going to take away what made this country such a success in the first place. OUR HUMAN AMBITION to succeed in life and work for the goals we want to achieve (i.e. big house, nice car or harley in the two car garage or whatever).
I used to be democrate, but not nowadays. They've lost me the last couple a years...I just don't see any traditional values left in that party. So, my vote will most likely go to whatever Conservative gets the nomination.

Seal our borders. notwithstanding in case you permit those that are right here now stay, seal them. i think of we ought to continuously enable no immigration for 2 years. Then in uncomplicated terms 50,0000 the three rd 3 hundred and sixty 5 days with a 2% boost each 3 hundred and sixty 5 days after that till we've this below administration. 4. decrease taxes..merely as quickly as we gained a dash floor the hot Congress merely presented us with the main important boost in historic previous. they say they did'nt, yet they did no longer make the tax cuts everlasting that Bush placed inand while they lapse, it is an boost.(returned you will no longer hear CNN,ABC,MSNBC or CBS permit you realize that.

I think both foreign and domestic policies are on the chopping block in this election. I mean, the value of the dollar is dropping. The economy is collapsing largely due to deportation of jobs, importing of foreign workers, and a mass influx of illegals. No one enforces the current laws. Healthcare is unattainable for most working class families and one way or another we are being taxxed to death. Or our freedoms are being taken away piece by piece in the name of security.
Meanwhile we run around arming countries who we should be telling to go screw themselves so that they can start wars which we end up fighting. Not to mention the fact that we pick fights with countries who have done nothing to us. AND we end up fighting wars with those very countries which we have armed. We have bases in countries all over the world and for what? Do you feel safer?

Current polls have social and moral issues at the top of the heap. By the way, the pollsters consider that to be a single issue.

for me the most important issues are:
1. cutting CO2 emissions, basically replacing fossil fuel burning with other alternative (and ethanol is not a viable alternative)
2. protection and expansion of wilderness areas and managing our natural resources better, this requires government intervention as the free market is wasting our resources as fast as it possibly can
3. making the world a more peaceful rather than violent place
4. campaign reform
5. ending this stupid partisan bickering that is inflamed by divisive politicians and media personalities
6. health care reform, our current private insurance situation is terrible, too complicated and it changes every year so that it is not understandable

My Rights (who the govt is employed to protect)
US Sovereignty (who the govt is employed to protect)
The US Constitution (who the govt is employed to protect)
Those 3 seemingly simple things span all imaginable issues. From the war in Iraq, to massive government waste, to unconstitutional bills & laws getting passed with nobody giving a damn!
