For the devout it is the Christ Mass, and holiday is derived from Holy Day

For the rest it is an excuse for a booze up, so for most Merry Christmas actually means merry winter holiday. Trouble is We wish you a merry winter holiday we wish a merry winter holiday doesn´t quite scan, does it. Well dream on for a white winter knees up
