I don't think they should be held accountable. For they probably thought he was blowing off steam. But should have brought the message forward to someone to immediately check on him and counsel him. In which case it may have been prevented.

I hadn't heard that he text messaged people... little bastard...seriously. And if that is the case, then yes I think that they should be held somewhat accountable. When you get a message like that you are responsible to say something, ESP. with someone like that, that you know is deeply troubled.

I haven't heard that he texted anybody about it.
But if he did, the recipient should have called 911.
I know someone whose neighbor committed a murder-suicide. I talked to the neighbor's friend afterward. The friend was crying and distraught because the killer had told him he was going to kill somebody, but he didn't believe it.
If somebody tells you he's going to kill somebody, and he's not obviously joking, it's best to take him seriously. Which would you prefer, to be embarrassed because it was a false alarm, or have people murdered because you didn't say anything?

He never really text messaged anyone of what he was exactly going to do. He just gave people a generalized idea.

I heard he text messaged 'good bye' to a few people and that was all. I doubt seriously he texted "bye for now, I'm off to shoot up a mall'.....
