As several others said, it is screwed on from underneath. (ignore the answerers who were unable to read the question, or who decided to be a smartass)

Generally, a bead of adhesive or caulk is laid on the top of the cabinets as well. After removing the screws, it may still seem adhered. Take a utility knife and score between the top of cabinet and underside of top everywhere you can get to.
If it is an L or U shaped top, it is also likely made of more than one piece. Look for cleats at the joint and remove those screws also. It will be easier to remove sections rather than the whole top.

Most countertops are connected to the cabinets with screws in the corners of them. Look for an angled piece of wood across the top of the cabinets. This is where the screws should be located.

Go inside your cabinets in the corners should be screws holding the counter top down. remove them and if there is a sink involved you need to turn off the water and disconnect the supply lines and the drain. clamps hold the sink to the counter.

To just remove the laminate is next to impossible because it's glued on and that glue is strong as heck. You will need to completely remove the plywood top and start over.

There might be one exception of using a hot air gun (looks like a hair dryer) to soften the laminate and using putty knives you MIGHT be able to lift it up, but you'll still have one heck of a job ahead of you.

The ones I have removed were attached with screws through the top of the cabinets into the bottom of the counter top. Unscrew it and you're good to go.

I think that sounds like too much work.
either hire the football team to chip it off.or slap the new one on top of the old one. and use a nice wide strip along the front :)
