Just because he's a symbol of Christmas in addition to the nativity doesn't make him a bad role model. The concept of a person who gives gifts to others without expecting anything for himself can't be a bad thing. Santa is based on a real saint--Saint Nicholas of Turkey, who used his wealth to help the poor in his hometown, especially by giving gifts to the local children. In other words, he was doing the type of charity work that we admire so much now. If Santa Claus (the Dutch version of "Saint Nicholas") is based on that, even the church can't really consider him to be evil when they canonized St. Nicholas.

Santa has many good qualities, although I always thought it was peculiar for him to have children sitting on his lap at the mall. I dont think that someone who gives all those gifts and really doesnt ask for much in return can be that bad. That is what the holidays are about-Giving.

I never really thought of him as any role model for my life, but if i was to choose one over the other, i'd go with good.

giving presents to people you don't know and having a jolly smile for everyone you see could NEVER be seen as a bad thing, IMO.

he is a good thing he encourages kids to believe in more then just toy stores and then there the fact there was a man with that name and he encourages us to be good to each other even if we (adults) don't believe we still try and do our best to make sure kid's believe long enough to learn to be kind to others and it's not the man but how we feel about each other even though he brakes in he is a good thing

St. Nicholas is the patron saint of thieves and children. My daughter did not like the concept of him at one time and told her mother she did not need toys, she had enough toys.

A bad one. Kids have a right to know the truth and not to be naive.
