I've tried adjusting the monitor settings, resetting it to default, etc and nothing has helped. Is my monitor going out (less than 2 years old) or is there something I can adjust to fix it? Thanks!

The strip is across the top and it's a free standing monitor. There is no defined place where the dark/light begins - it's gradual.

You should have never bought LCD. LCD and Plasma have alot of problems, shoulda bought DLP. LCD quality begins to diminish overtime, the colors become less vibrant and the screens brightness begins to diminish overtime. This is normal for an LCD, but for a TV that is less than two years old it is not normal. Hopefully you have a warranty. Good luck with it.

It is definitely a screen related issue. There are 5 drivers each running a section of the screen. Obviously one is out, but that doesn't mean the others are on the way.

Sorry should have asked, HP LCD monitor/laptop and is the darker strip vertical?

cpttango30 is right, one of your backlights in the LCD panel has failed.

These are integrated into the panel, so to repair it you have to replace the panel. If it is still under warranty call HP. If not the cheapest thing will be to buy a new monitor.

To me it sounds like one of your back lights is out. if that is the case contact HP and they might replace it. I know Smasung replaced my moniter with no questions asked when I had a dead pixle. They sent me a new one and I boxed up the old one and sent it back. Did not even charge me shipping.
