Because the toilet seat is designed to be down. Hence the lid.

1) The toilet seat looks better when it is down, 2) we go to the loo a lot more than you guys do, or at least I do, I go 3-4 times more than my SO. But sometimes he leaves the seat up, and I always leave the seat down, and I don't feel bothered by it. I figure it takes as much energy to lift the seat when I am done, than to put it down when I need to use the toilet. Why is it such a big issue? It seems to me it is more of a control issue. I still have to see a book where it says the toilet seat up or down will cause energy to cause friction that will lead the porcelain to waste, or some nuclear reaction, or a big reason for us to get into an argument over such a petty thing. I don't have a book that says it HAS to be up or down.

The fact is, men also have to use the toilet when the seat is down, so overall, the seat needs to be down more than up anyway. Froma health standpoint, keeping the lid down makes more sense as well. If you live in a urban areas, it's important becuase of what can travel through the sewer systems, too. Lastly, if you are just being reasonable, doing something nice that costs nothing and takes no real effort is smart. It makes things smoother.

I was struck by the person who said they leave teh seat up for their husband, and he puts it down for her. How very, very odd.

Why the hell would we lift the seat after we're done sitting on it? That's just not a natural response. And not to side with being a woman but I think it's a natural response to put the toilet seat down...or in your case, not so much. The toilet seat looks better down, regardless.

Because if the toilet seat was meant to stay up, you wouldn't have a toilet seat to begin with. You sit on it too, just not as much. It makes the woman happy to have it down, and it's unsanitary for her to have to touch the toilet seat to put it down after you've used it. Have some consideration and put it down when you are done.

Why would you want to flush and send pee mist into the room?

What special type of dirt-floor hillbilly are you?

*EVERYONE* in the house, regardless of gender, should be required to use the toilet, then lower the seat *AND THE LID* - then flush and walk away. That reduces arguing. Why do you think the thing has a cover? So you won't lap water out of it when you're drunk? geezus man. Come on. It's indoor plumbing - act like you know how to use it.

Courtesy. Also, have you ever been half asleep or drunk and sat down to crap on a toilet that the seat is lifted up on?

FYI if the girl has a tiny butt, she is going swimming LOL

Just put the seat down. End one life's most worthless arguments, then debate who's on top when doing 69 ;p

to answer this question I will use math!

Lets say the average ratio of #1 to #2 for females and males is 4:1. and the average bathroom uses per day is 8 (makes math easy)

OK, so a male will go 8 times/day, 2 will be #2 and 6 #1, so the toilet seat is up for 6 of them

a female goes 8 times as well, but the toilette seat always has to be down, all 8 times.

So in cohabitation, the bathroom s used 16 times per day, and only 6 of those times the toilette seat has to be up....THE MINORITY...the fact is, the toilette seat has to be down more then up....as a result, the least effort and change is required if the man puts the seat up to urinate his 6 times a day!

I hope you enjoy my answer, it is in jest! But makes 100% sense....but really courtesy is the answer....it looks better, keeps pee of the seat, and makes life easier for your partner

Respect. Do you know how many times I've fallen into the toilet because my husband left the lid up?! I'm sorry, but peeing on the seat and then having to clean it up afterwards is a hell of a lot better than falling INTO the toilet and having to clean toilet water off your butt. Do it out of love and respect.

My hubby and my step son both put it down when they are done. Yay! Its their choice we didnt ask them to. Hubby explained it to him in an ettiqutte type way. You open doors for ladies, you open the car door for them why not put down the seat? Besides our house is a majority female, 5 to 2 men. Most of the time its down, leave it the way you found it. He says its a respect thing. Besides, when you have company who wants to look at the inside of our bowl? Thats real appealing. My guys do it out of consideration, they are respectful and they dont mind doing it. Seriously have you ever went to the bathroom in the middle of the night to get a wet a**? Would YOU be happy? Personally i think one of them secretly has fallen in and didnt like it. Lemme tell you its a shocker!
My brothers house is the same way, lotsa girls and few guys. They put it down too. I think my brother agrees with me, its a respect thing.
