Most homeless are homeless because they don't apply themselves. You can't make someone go out and get a job without taking away all of their freedoms. You can keep them alive; that's it really. They have to want to do better. The government won't help them any more than private agencies do, I think the system is fine the way it is.
In the south, many churches take it upon themselves to care for the homeless, and from what I've seen they do get results. I have known of homeless going through those programs and improving their lives.
The government would just raise taxes and throw money at them, that solves nothing and creates bigger problems.

Repeat after me "SMALLER GOVERNMENT".
last thing we need is the govt getting involved in this big issue
and then what, they raise taxes so high to pay for this program that more people go bankrupt.
And in the end wind up in the homeless shelters. It's a vicious cycle.
GOVERNMENT INVOLVEMENT IS NOT THE SOLUTION

Yeah, ok. The government would just make a mess out of it just like everything they try to do. The government is not efficient and it would cost a ton more money for the government to do the same job and where does the money come from, that would be more taxes for you and me.

these programs are alright as they are funded. The ability to use these programs and take a step forward is all up to the individual. it does not benefit the US nor us paying the taxes to house them for free if their inability to move on is not in their goals.

I think independent agencies, with limited funds, would be more circumspect in dealing with their clientele than a government agency who would just ask for more funding from the tax payers.

No way, if you think they perpetuate the problem to stay in business ( I dont) then wait until the government takes over.
