I guess it would depend on what your wanting from the bakery!

If it is a cake or something for a birthday.
My advice is McArthur's Bakery on Lemay Ferry! Don't go to the other locations because they are horrible! I know they say it comes from the Lemay store BUT I have never gotten a FRESH cake but from Lemay.

If your looking for fresh bread ~
Without a doubt it is Amighetti's on the Hill!!!!
You need to get there first thing in the morning when the bread is still hot! You need to go before 3pm or you won't get ANY! They sell out FAST!

If you looking for pastries!
My recommendation is ~
Missouri Bakery on the Hill!
They have Cannoli's to DIE for!

If you looking for pies ~
I would go to Blue Owl in Kimmswick! It is known for their mile high apple pies!!!!

If you are looking for pasteries or cakes McArthurs on Lemay Ferry Rd is great. If you are looking for the best homemade bread its Missouri Bakery on the hill. If you want cookies to die for try Vivianos which is also on the hill. There are also some other specialty bakeries but it would be hard to recommend the best one without knowing what you would like to buy.

You might check out the Black Bear Bakery in Cherokee. The neighborhood is a bit shady, but the food is great. It's a collectivist bakery - the workers are the owners, and get the profits.

helfer's pastries in florrisant, MO. wow do they have awesome stuff. STL Bread co has your basic stuff, but if you want cakes or something along those lines helfer's is the place to go. they have stolins, they are like a huge cream puff with fresh strawberries and icing on it wow is it awesome. they also have other toppings for them too and they are only like 10 bucks and serve about 10 people.

La Bonne Bouchee or Party Pastry Shop.

Both do an awesome job.

Sugaree does cakes that are works of art and delicious.

If you don't mind spending a little $, McArthur's Bakery is your best bet. In my opinion, they are the best.
