Ok, so we are bored to death & not into the "bar scene", so I decided to build a fun room in our house so we could have some fun on the weekends & not have to go out and spend a bunch of $$ & deal with drunks at the bars. So I enclosed my porch and now I want to add the "fun". I've found a decent pool table for $150, I've built a little bar w/mini-fridge for less than $100, I'm saving up for an LCD 36" TV that'll go up on the wall. I'd like to have the kids be able to play video games too, so I'm looking for a video game console that has a decent variety of games (for adults & kids) that is cheap, so therefore I dont need the newest thing out there. I'd like an old Nintendo or something like that. Any ideas on a reliable video game console that has decent games you can still get ahold of?

For nostalgia purposes you can by an Atari console for around $20 it now comes with about 30 of the old atari games.

After that, the kids are going to lower their heads in shame and embarrasment so try going to Pawn shops for some other cheap consoles.

You'd have to get that sort of thing on Ebay or Amazon used, any Nintendo 64 or Super Nintendo, but the games won't be around forever, so buy a bulk set that someone is selling now, you can probably find them at GameStop used as well for cheap. Honestly though, After the holidays are over and the shelves are stocked, I'd just spend the extra money and get a Wii, it's the most family fun game out there and there are plenty of games and it'll be well worth it, $250 and just get a couple extra games here and there, you should definitely consider it. Good luck! Sounds like a nice family room!

Hey you can get a playstation 2 for around $120 new or $80 used. You can find games for it at almost every store that sells games, and they vary from kids to adults. I would also recommend a Nintendo Wii, they are $250 but they sell out fast so you would need to go to the store at 5 the night before it opens. It is brand new so you will be able to get games for a long time still to come.

If you are looking for fun for everybody I think you should buy the nintendo Wii. The Wii would be great for you because it is cheaper than the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3 and it has a great variety of games for both older people and younger kids. Plus the best games come with the Wii like for example Wii bowling and Wii boxing. These games never get old....NEVER ha personally I think anyone can have playing Wii. During thanksgiving I played Wii at my uncles house with my grandma!!

Well I would recommend a Super Nintendo unfortunately the majority of the good games for it are either hard to find or expensive.

I wouldn't recommend an N64 because it's really just an awful system with only a handful of good games.

I wouldn't recommend a PS1 since a PS2 has backwards compatibility and PS1s aren't the most reliable hardware to begin with.

Soooo....

I'd go with a mid-late generation PS2.

If you can find a modded and loaded x-box I would try that out too but that's questionably legal/reliable despite having the ability to put emulators on it.

Well i would get a Wii because it is the newest console out and it is also the cheapest out now, and it also has games for adults and kids, such as call of duty 4 or red steel for adults and mario and sonic games for kids. So i think that would be the best for your situation.

Probably the PS2. It has a huge selection of games and are available used (so cheap). And some people are still developing games last I heard.

I have a Wii. Comapred to other new consoles, it's pretty cheap (if you can find one). And has the innovative remote idea.

if you are looking for something cheap go to a eb game stop and find a used ps2 or an xbox, those are the only systems worth buying if you are looking for something inexpensive but usable, my advise is to go for a new console because of the longevity and broad array of capabilities and functions, ie ps3. you probably wont find a used ps2 but they still sell them new for over $100 but at that point you may as well invest in something that wont be so outdated a year from now.

The wii is fun and interactive for the whole. and its the cheapest next gen console out right now at 250$. If you dont want to pay that much. I would buy a PS2 then. its still pretty good considering that they still make games for it. and they are too very fun.

Garage sale would not be a good idea I would suggest a PLaystation 2 they are like $140 or less now and have tons and tons of games out for it and you can get most games now for $20 or less except fo the new ones.
