Are they trying to abide by FAA regulations?

They fly around in the day light hours too. The lights are for anti-collisions.

Your supposition is obviously correct. A race capable of spanning the interstellar gulf would certainly be fearful of legal penalties for violating FAA regulations while they ignore Department of Agriculture restrictions on mutilating cattle and vandalism of corn fields.

The same way we send rovers to mars first before sending humans,they do the same thing.especialy if they have to travel such long distances.
they are on a discovery mission and it runs by robots , therefore the lights are turned on automaticly at night.
i belive what people see are most likely robots and not the real aliens. i wonder how long it will take for the data they collect here and send back home to their planet and how long it will take for the real ones to arrive.

They just do it for the publicity they get. With the lights off, no one sees them, reports them, speculates on them, or has the chance to write books about them. The ones that show up in daylight are just exhibitionists.

i would say they would have to see where they are going, but i guess you don't have to worry too much about that when your that high up in the sky
