Being female helps. A minority of males have some colour-blindness, but it is rarer in females.
The instructions are usually on the box i.e Dip the paper in for maybe ten seconds, wipe it against the container while taking it out. Compare with the colour chart given on the box.
Incidentally, the test is semi-quantitative. In the end, you should, give it your best guess based on what you see.
Some substances are hard to test, because of their strong inherent colour e.g. inks.

dip it into the substance and it will change colors.ph levels go to 0-14.
0-6 being acids.The lower the ph the stronger acid.
7 is neutral.
8-14 being bases.The higher the ph the stronger base.
u can determine the ph by looking at the diagram on the test tube the ph paper was in.

Dip it in to something you want to test the pH of and compare the color of the paper to the chart which should be supplied with it.

read the package...some will tell you to dip and wait till the color is done changing, and some will tell you to dip and remove, then let color change

you just get it wet with whatever you are testing, and compare the color to the strip on the package.
