Can you close your nose without holding it ? i.e. block it without using your fingers or doing anything other than just...blocking it, so that you can't smell through it, breath through it etc. The same sort of action as swallowing or breathing, that you can't describe - you just DO it.
My whole family can do it as well as a couple of friends (that I know of) and I always thought everyone could until someone looked at me like I was talking craaaazy when I mentioned it somehow.
My boyfriend also thinks I'm loopy, so I said I'd do a survey.
Can most people do it or not?

No, it's not just holding your breath - you can still breath through your mouth. And it definitely doesn't hurt!

I can, but I have a few friends who claim they can't. I'm not sure if it's because they physically can't, or they just don't know how. It is exactly as you described. Most useful when underwater, but don't turn upside down!

Of course, it's like you just close it off, it kinda feels like you do it from the top (inside) of your mouth. I just realized that if you put the tip of your tongue all the way back in the top of your mouth as far back as you can, when you close your nose off you can feel the top of your pallet go up...never noticed before.

I think everyone can do it...you have to do it to scratch your throat don't you?? Most ppl do it when they laugh at someone (make that Khmmmm sound)

I just breathe through my mouth and not out my nose so smells don't bother me. It's not really "closing" it though.

I can do it if I inhale through my nose, because it brings my nostrils further in..but then again, thats part of breathing..so..no

Yeah, I can do that, and so can everyone else on my swim team. The odd thing is though, Nobody I know except my fellow swim-teamers can do it.
