it is actually game theory , not number theory...

let us say... we have a predator and a prey group...
both group affects the other... the more predator... the prey diminishes.. but with diminished prey... many of the predators die of hunger... thus they diminish... which increases the prey...
and so on...
so game theory analyses whether there is a periodic effect or a stable ratio... or it will lead to annihilation of one group...

Yes, it's game theory, the subject of my PhD.
As a general rule, game theory is useful in the social and life sciences for inspiration more than it is as an actual calculation tool. Mathematical game theory revolves around "equilibrium" values, and a small change in the setup can produce great changes in the equilibrium values.
So precise calculations based on approximate game theoretic models are rarely useful.
